EFB Section of Medicines Development, Board established

Dear Member of EFB Section of Medicines Development

Firstly thank you for joining the Section. We are now more than 160 members within only a couple of months!

I would like to update you on the ongoing activities.

The initiative has gained a lot of interest and is seen by the European Commission as a potential European Technology Platform which will be a new instrument in FP7. Further the initiative is seen an example of coordination between the EU Framework Programme and EUREKA

We have just had the first meeting in the section where those who had expressed interest in joining the Board of the section including representatives from the European Commission and EUREKA.

The Board consists of the following members:

Jørgen Dirach, Novo Nordisk (Chairman), Denmark
Lilia Alberghina, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy
Vic Ilag, Xerion Pharmaceuticals, Germany
Andreani Odysseos, University of Cyprus, Cyprus
Ove Pedersen, Alk-abelló, Denmark
Hans Günther Schaefer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Germany
Patrick Keohane, Astra Zeneca, Sweden/UK
Menno Van Der Waart, NV Organon, the Netherlands
Türkan Eldam, Hacettepe University, Turkey
Stephen Little, Dxs Ltd., UK
Iman Barilero, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development, UK

It was agreed to keep seats open on the Board open for a few additional, relevant stakeholders.

The same group will be behind the application for the EUREKA Definition phase project. The application is being prepared for submission in April.
A group was formed to evaluate the submitted project proposals and decide on future calls.
We are now consolidating the Section writing statutes etc. and ensuring collaboration with organisations pursuing similar goals.

Kind regards, Jorgen Dirach
